St. Joseph's Church

5455 Russell Street

(85 Russell St. prior to number conversion)

The original St. Joseph's church was built in 1867 and was destroyed by the Halifax explosion on December 6, 1917.  In 1920 a basement church was built on the site.  It was not until 1959-61 that the present, upper portion of the church was built. The church had its final service in June 2006.

On Friday May 8th, 2008, St. Joseph's was demolished.  On Friday May 22nd, I stopped by to take some pictures as the rubble is in the process of being removed.
